Introduction

Stone Lane Gardens is a 5 acre arboretum holding important National Collections of wild-origin Birch and Alder trees in a lovely landscaped water & woodland setting. We are situated in the Dartmoor National Park, Devon; surrounded by beautiful scenery and yet only a few miles
from the main roads.

The Garden

The garden is open all year round. During the summer we hold an annual sculpture exhibition in the garden. We usually have over 100 unusual and imaginative sculptures, by many west
country artists. Autumn and Winter are particularly good seasons to visit as the garden is quieter and the trees really stand out. The coloured stems of the birch are revealed as the leaves fall, and the bark looks outstanding when lit by a low winter sun. We have over 1000
trees in our National Collections.

The Nursery

Our specialist Birch & Alder tree nursery grows most of the species shown in the arboretum. The nursery is open all year round, but by appointment only as we don't have enough staff to man the nursery all the time. All our stock is field-grown and is available for purchase from November to April. It is often best to reserve trees before the winter, as stock sells out fast. Our mail order business sends trees to customers throughout the UK. Please phone before visiting to ensure someone is available to help with your tree selection.
