Fuchsia (hardy spp. & cvs.)

Fuschia "Heidi Ann" Fuschia "Heidi Ann"

Introduction

The National Collection of Hardy Fuchsias and Species is held by Roger Gilbert at Silver Dale Nurseries in North Devon.

High above the coastal village of Combe Martin, in perfect peace and tranquillity, one can wander around and browse in our permanently planted, unique display areas and discover the beauty and variety of hardy fuchsias. The areas are divided into beds that contain in all about two thousand plants which represent nearly all the four hundred and fifty varieties and species of hardy fuchsias.Growing on the exposed south facing rocky hillside of Exmoor they are subject to extremes of conditions that are unlikely to be found in most gardens.

Fuchsias can be grown almost anywhere in the U.K.

We have been collecting hardy fuchsias for over 50 years and have assessed and star rated each cultivar and species for its suitability to any region of the U.K.

Please note that the nursery closed early in 2015. The National Collection remains open, but please contact us to arrange your visit.
